Last night at POG a nine week series called "Financial Peace University" came to a close. The final session was a call to "live like no one else so that later you can live and give like no one else". During the journey, 25 people or so (about a third of them from the community), were taught a way to manage money entrusted to us by God based on Biblical principals. We watched a video each week from founder Dave Ramsey, and were led locally by Fred and Nancy Meinberg. What a blessing they were to our time together. Fred and Nancy's heart to teach this material was evident each and every week. What an asset to have them be part of our POG community.
The end of last nights session brought the "surprise" of the program, at least for this participant. When all was said and done, during the nine week program, this was the breakdown of financial change within the group of participants:
$44,000 plus: The amount of debt that was "paid" off by the group.
50: The number of credit cards that were cut up during the process
$24,000 plus: the amount of money secured in accounts for a rainy day by the group.
To say that I was shocked would be an understatement. I realized pretty early on that this program was special, but I had no idea how this 9 week program would change lives and futures for those who participated. The best part: the change was not just for those who participated but for the generations that will follow. I love it that my kids "hate" Dave Ramsey. The gift Sage and I will give them as a result is priceless.
God blesses us first so that we can be a blessing to others. A promise given to Abraham is ours to pass along. Statistics would suggest that one of the main stresses for many people are financial ones. Financial pressures can get in the way of our desire to be a blessing to others. Programs like "FPU" provide a way to live Biblically and be the best stewards(managers) of the financial gifts that God gives us to oversee. It gives us a way to "live like no one else so that we can live and give like no one else". People of POG: I am proud that our church sponsored such a life changing program.
We are looking at potentially running this program again in the fall. If you are interested, please let myself or Fred and Nancy Meinberg know and we will make sure you are on the list for the latest info. I am so grateful this program is a part of our church community.
